A simple question for the developers at Mythic: why go to so much trouble to create an elaborate dye system, including a 7-minute long video about dyes with several WAR bloggers, and not allow people to remove said awesome dyes from their gear? The dye panel works so nicely, and allows a decent amount of customization, yet doesn’t offer the option to eliminate existing dye. <scratches head>
I’m stumped. Am I a complete idiot, or is there no way to return a piece of armor to its originally designed state? From my far-reaching (ahem) research (asking in alliance chat, and scouring the internet), I’m shit outta luck.
I even had an epic white dye drop in a dungeon run the other night. But no way to clean it off my armor? Why not? Even DAOC had a transparent dye you could purchase from a vendor that let you un-dye your item. Someone help me out here — I must be missing something. Right?

I have to agree 100% with this post. The dye system needs some looking at. I know it’s just “fluff” – but I think games need some good “fluff” to make them really fun.
I read a post over at WHA where someone claimed there was a way to remove the dyes, but they lied. At this point I believe there is no way to remove dyes.
I think “fluff” is a lot more important in this type of game — even if it’s not as cutesy as WoW — than it gets credit for. Really, even things like player housing, WAR’s Tome of Knowledge, or mounts could be considered fluff, but they’re critically important in MMOs and success hinges not only on getting the core gameplay right, but getting the right balance of fluff in there as well to keep players occupied and happy.
Between dyes being un-removable and trophies being uninspired, Mythic really needs to get their act together on the “fluff” side. :)
